Timber Ridge Reserve · Doncaster
Specialist goalkeeper coaching in Doncaster for keepers aged 8 and up, capped at four keepers a session. Fridays at 5:00pm at Timber Ridge Reserve, led by a coach who does this professionally — and open to keepers from any club.
Sessions are led by Mel Maizels, a championship-winning W-League goalkeeper and the current Head Goalkeeper Coach at Melbourne Victory A-League Women. Mel coaches across the elite pathway from NPLW through to the professional game.
Most junior keepers are coached by someone who played outfield. The point of the Academy is that the standard applied to professional keepers is the standard applied here — to a group of four, on a Friday afternoon in Doncaster.
Each week works a technical focus and then puts it under pressure: handling, footwork and set position, shot stopping, crosses, distribution with both feet, and the decisions that sit behind all of it — when to travel, when to hold, when to commit.
Sessions are planned in advance and build week to week, so keepers develop consistency rather than collecting one-off drills. Every keeper is tracked from one week to the next.
Four is a cap, not a target. It is the number at which every keeper is still coached individually, gets enough repetition to actually change technique, and never stands in a line waiting for a turn. There are two groups of four; when they are full, they are full.
